SORN.co.uk is an independent information site that explains Statutory Off Road Notification and the motoring admin around it, in plain English.

What we do

We publish free, practical guides to taking a vehicle off the road in the UK: how to SORN, what happens after SORN, how to fix common problems and how the rules apply in real-life situations.

How we check our information

Every rule on this site is checked against official guidance on GOV.UK, and we link to the source page so you can check it yourself. Pages show the date they were last reviewed. Rules do change (for example the historic vehicle tax date moves each April), so always confirm with DVLA before acting on anything important.

What we don't do

• We are not affiliated with DVLA or the government.
• We don't make SORNs on your behalf or charge for anything DVLA does free. You can make a SORN yourself, free, at gov.uk/make-a-sorn.
• We can't see or change DVLA records.
